Ten studies in
motion & math.
Flow fields, a GPU shader, physics, 3D, and living chemistry, each one drawn from scratch with no graphics library, and each one listening to your cursor. Scroll slowly.
Flow Field
Eleven hundred particles read their heading from an invisible field of angles. Move the cursor to stir the current.
Aurora
A fragment shader running on the GPU: fractal noise folded into itself twice (domain warping). The cursor bends the field.
Cloth
Real fabric: a mesh of points held by distance constraints, solved four times a frame, blown by a little wind. Press and drag to pull it.
Torus
No 3D library, just 1,664 points, two rotation matrices, a perspective divide, and a dot-product for the light. Move the cursor to orbit.
Goo
No metaball math. Soft blobs blurred, then crushed through a high-contrast threshold so their edges fuse. One tracks your cursor.
Reaction–Diffusion
Two virtual chemicals, one that feeds and one that kills, diffusing across a grid. The same equations that pattern a leopard. Hover to feed it.
Particle Type
Each word is rendered off-screen, its pixels sampled into 2,600 springs that fly home to form the letters, then move on. Sweep the cursor through them.
Harmonograph
A Victorian drawing machine, simulated: four decaying sine waves in x and y trace a figure that never quite repeats. The cursor detunes the pendulums.
Warp
Five hundred stars rushing past, each a streak from where it was to where it is. Hover to jump to lightspeed and steer the vanishing point.
Flock
Three rules per bird (steer with your neighbours, toward your neighbours, but not into them), and a murmuration emerges. The cursor is a hawk.
